™A word from the Teachers

šTwo years have passed since I took charge of this class: English I-2-U Creative Writing 2001. This scheme was inspired by my own experience: having stayed in London as a visiting academic for 18 months, I felt the urgent necessity to present information about ourselves by ourselves in this commercialized Japanese craze. Pokemon doesn't represent our lives, neither does MUJI. That's the reason why I suggested to the students of our Creative Writing class that they should write about their own university life and publish the description as their self-portraits.
I'm afraid, however, the readers might find some anomalies here and there on the pages the students created. Not only the contents, but their writing style also represent culture, according to the definition of culture by Raymond Williams. I do hope you would enjoy the adventure in their "wonder-ful" land and find what's really happening to them at Fukushima University. Anyway, I'm proud of them, as all the students worked very hard for preparing these self-portraits. ----Midori TSUJI, Professor

šIt was a great pleasure indeed to teach the first half of this class, and to see results such as this from the second semester. A big thank-you to the students and Prof. Tsuji for making this possible, and all the best to each of you in your continuing "English life."----Sean Mahoney, Assistant professor
